Good news! The contraceptive implant is now licensed for up to 5 years, instead of 3 years, meaning if you have it fitted, you don’t need a new one so soon. The implant is a small plastic rod that is fitted into your upper arm. It releases progestogen which stops your ovaries releasing an egg. If you’re interested in having an implant fitted, visit our website YorSexualHealth.org.uk/contraception for more information.
