Information for Candidates
The AHD is designed to assess the candidates’ clinical knowledge and its application through both written and clinical assessments.
It consists of two parts:
Part 1 – Written paper, 60 minutes.
The written paper consists of six tasks, based on topics taken from the curriculum. Tasks will include labelling diagrams, interpreting data, short answer, multiple choice, and single best answer questions etc. Each of the six sections is marked out of ten marks (60 in total).
Part 2 – Clinical stations, 60 minutes.
This will comprise of four clinical stations, taking 15 minutes each, including reading time:
• one role play station
• two viva stations
• one viva/teach station.
Each station will be marked out of 15 marks (60 in total).
Pass mark: The AHD pass mark has been set using a Modified Angoff standard setting methodology. To pass the candidate must achieve the following:
• A score of 40 or above out of 60 for part 2
• An overall score of 80 or above out of 120 (67%) for the whole AHD
AHD result and resits:
The candidate will not receive their results on the day of the AHD. We as the testing centre will have ten working days to submit results to the faculty. The results will be inputted on the CoSRH Training Hub and will be available to the candidate up to 14 working days after the assessment. The candidate will receive marks for both Part 1 and Part 2 and their overall AHD score.
When a candidate passes, the CoSRH Training Hub will indicate this, and the AHD assessment will be complete.
Where a candidate fails, they will be able to request Part 2 feedback from the AHD Lead. The candidate must contact the AHD Lead within 14 working days of receiving their result. Feedback will not be given automatically. As per the OTA, each candidate is afforded three attempts at the AHD during their journey. They must wait three months between attempts. Upon failing their third attempt, the candidate will need to wait six months, to prepare and focus their learning before they are permitted to attempt the AHD again.
