Fanny and Jonny scoop gold at national health awards
25 November 2011
Sexual health professionals in North Yorkshire and York are this week celebrating after their viral game 'Fanny and Jonny's Big Night Out' won gold at the Association of Healthcare Communicators awards held in Birmingham on Tuesday.
The online game, which was developed by the YorSexualHealth partnership, beat-off stiff competition to win the 'best new media' category and was heralded as 'an innovative, engaging and cost effective way to capture the attention of a hard to reach target audience'.
As well as raising awareness of the new YorSexualHealth website, the game also promotes important messages to young people about safe sex and using a condom.
Alex Trewhitt, who chairs the YorSexualHealth communications group and lead the design of the game, said: "Having launched the new YorSexualHealth website earlier this year we needed a way to raise awareness and increase traffic.
"We took a gamble on producing such a tongue-in-cheek game but it's definitely paid off. Since the game launched in April, hits to the website have increased by over 600 per cent and the game alone has received over 10,000 hits.
"It just goes to show that the role of social media in communicating important lifestyle messages to young people should not be overlooked."
